One Week!

This time next week, I will be on my way towards Japan.  I’ll be staying there for a week, then jetting off to Thailand before heading home.  I’ve got most of my lodging booked, my train pass bought, and everything in order packing-wise.  I’m pretty excited to see how it all goes once I get out there.  I’ve never been anywhere in Asia before, so I’m sure the culture shock is going to be pretty intense.  However, I have read a lot about both countries, so I have at least a slight idea of what to expect once I get over there.

Is The Bad Economy Good For Travel?

Thought the economy is pretty much sucking it up these days, there are some small patches of hope out there. For example, I was looking out how much doing some extend travel would cost me, and I realized that there are some super cheap flights to Asia out there at the moment. Lower oil prices and reduced travel have worked together to bring us some excellent deals it seems.

Asia isn’t the only place to benefit from cheap flights. Richard Branson has started out his new V Australia airline which hopes to take Quantas head on. They are offering some amazing rates for the Los Angeles-Sidney route, so I’m hoping to take advantage of that sometime soon! Exciting times for travel.

So, while the down economy isn’t a good thing over all, the presence of cheap flights and the strong US dollar are getting me excited to get out there and star exploring the world! What do you guys think?

My Next Big Trip

Until I manage to pull my finances together and get a big pile of cashed saved up with which to travel the world, I am currently faced with the taking trips in small sized chunks.  I went to Europe over Christmas break, and I will be going to Asia after I graduate and before I start out my job.  I’m pretty excited about the trip, but am also a little sad since it will be my last big trip for a while once my job starts up.

At any rate, I will be starting off my trip in Japan.  We’ll be flying into Tokyo, and spending a few days around there.  I’m going to to get one the Japan rail passes so that I can get around, but I don’t think we’ll be visiting too many cities since I’ll only be there for like 8 days or so.  I’m thinking Tokyo and Kyoto mostly. It’s going to be pricy, but we’ll be staying in hostels rather than a hotel so we should be OK.

After that, it’s off to Thailand for two weeks.  I’ll be flying into Bangkok, spending a few days there.  I will then work my way south to Ko Tao where I will be taking an open water diving course.  I hear the diving there is amaing, so I’m excited for that.

At any rate, this is sure to be  fun trip.  I’ll be sure to update more as I get it.
